Dear Member Clubs and Districts,
Yesterday, Golf NSW communicated a recommendation to Clubs to close golf course facilities (for golfing activities), and Golf NSW now provides further clarity and formal information concerning this matter.
Golf NSW’s recommendation was issued following an update from the Office of Sport – NSW Government, confirming that the status of golf had been changed to a ‘non-essential’ activity, effective from midnight on March 30, 2020.
As such, the playing of golf (social, competition, practice or tuition) is contrary to ‘Stay at Home’ NSW Public Health Orders.
Breach of orders made under the Public Health Act 2010 is a criminal offence and attracts heavy penalties of up to $11,000 for individuals and $55,000 for corporations.
Golf NSW does not have the capacity to order Clubs to close, so now provides a strong recommendation that Clubs close their course to all golfing activities immediately.
